Redistricting authority:
U.S. Congressional Districts – Legislative. There are no statutes that particularly govern congressional redistricting, but the Legislature carries out congressional redistricting in much the same way as the legislative redistricting, but only after a decennial census. The Committee on Government Affairs (Senate) and Committee on Elections, Procedures and Ethics (Assembly)district plans. The Governor has veto power over the congressional plan.
State Legislative Districts – Legislative. Committee on Government Affairs (Senate) and
Committee on Elections, Procedures and Ethics (Assembly). They take up the issue of
redistricting the first session after the information from the census is made available. The
Governor has veto power over the state legislative plan.
