Redistricting authority:
U.S. Congressional Districts – Legislative. No statutory requirements. Congressional districting follows the same as the legislative redistricting, below.
State Legislative Districts – Legislative. House Election Law Committee and Senate Executive
Departments and Administration Committee. Must work on redistricting legislation the first
regular session of 2011. [If there is a situation where a town being divided into different districts, they may form a redistricting commission within their district, consisting of 5 members,
all registered electors of that district. Within 225 days after appointment, they have to report to
the Secretary of State for approval. The plan is put on the next town election ballot for
approval.] The Governor has veto power over both plans.
