From The Courier:
MoreWhile it now has more usable space, the Montgomery County Republican Headquarters still almost couldn’t hold all the Republicans celebrating its renovation, including the leader of the Texas House of Representatives.
A throng of elected officials and party faithful attended the headquarters’ open house Tuesday afternoon to meet Speaker Joe Straus, R-San Antonio. Straus kept the energy going with a bold prediction for the Nov. 2 election.
With what Straus termed the revamped, re-energized Republican Party, “We are going to pick up quite a few seats (in Congress),” he said. … “We are about to take our country back and right the wrongs that were done in 2008.”
One of the battles the House faces in the upcoming legislative session will center on redistricting after official census figures come in. …
With Montgomery County now representing one of the state’s strongest Republican bases, it’s a far cry from the party’s beginnings nearly five decades ago.
